PROGRAM EXAMPLE
The following programming example demonstrates how to program most
of the A/D operating modes. Refer to the program outline for a description of each
programming module. program outline
* I. Leave autoscan mode.
* II. Initialize on-board timer for part IV.
* III. SCANNING POLL MODE + EXTERNAL TRIGGER example
* Set up a scan which is started by an external trigger.
* The end will be determined by reading a 3112 status bit.
* IV. SCANNING INTERRUPT MODE + ON-BOARD TIMER example
* Set up a scan which is started by the on-board timer.
* The end will be signaled by an interrupt.
* V. RANDOM POLL MODE example
* Do 64 conversions using the random access/poll mode.
* VI. Put the board back in autoscan mode. II. Initialize on-board timer for part IV.
*If the timer was shut off abruptly (before output strobe returns high) it
* can prevent external trigger operation until the timer is re-initialized.
* The time the strobe takes is equal to the period of the second-to-last
* counter if 2 or 3 are cascaded. For the example here, it is 1 millisecond.

BOARDS THAT ARE SUBJECTED TO A HIGH ENERGY ELECTROSTATIC FIELD.
UNUSED BOARDS SHOULD BE STORED IN THE SAME PROTECTIVE BOXES IN
WHICH THEY WERE SHIPPED. WHEN THE BOARD IS TO BE LAID ON A BENCH
FOR CONFIGURING, ETC., IT IS SUGGESTED THAT CONDUCTIVE MATERIAL BE
INSERTED UNDER THE BOARD TO PROVIDE THAT CONDUCTIVE MATERIAL BE
INSERTED UNDER THE BOARD TO PROVIDE A CONDUCTIVE SHUNT.
Upon receipt, any precautions found in the shipping container should be
observed. All items should be carefully unpacked and thoroughly inspected for
damage that might have occurred during shipment. The board (s) should be
checked for broken components, damaged circuit board(s), heat damage, and
other visible contamination. All claims arising from shipping damage should be
filed with the carrier and a complete report sent to VMIC together with a request for
advice about the disposition of the damaged item(s).
5.2 PHYSICAL INSTALLATION
CAUTION
DO NOT INSTALL OR REMOVE BOARDS WHILE POWER IS APPLIED.
De-energize the equipment and insert the board into an appropriate slot
of the chassis. While ensuring that the board is properly aligned and oriented in
the supporting card guides, slide the board smoothly forward against the mating
connector until firmly seated.
5.3 BEFORE APPLYING POWER: CHECKLIST
Before installing the board in a VMEbus system, check the following
items to ensure that the board is ready for the intended application.
a. Have the sections pertaining to theory and programming, Sections 3
and 4, been reviewed and applied to system requirements?
